Brisbane usually doesn’t come to mind when you think of Australia as it’s usually always Sydney and Melbourne that people talk about or plan to visit. Don’t let this put you off though. Brisbane might not have the attractions, art, sports, culture and liveliness of the bigger cities but it’s still got things to offer and is only an hour from the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast. We didn’t spend a lot of time in the city, in fact, barely spent anytime in the city, other than a quick walk down one of the main streets and is usually the case when we travel to cities with clean air, we try and stay out of them and head to green spaces with clean air.
It’s funny how sometimes cities or places don’t appear to have that much to offer but sometimes you just have a better time there. This was one of those times. Grobbler and I tagged along on the back of one of Mum’s business trips, as we quite often do, and I’d have to say I enjoyed here more than Sydney. We got out of the city, went to some parks, the Australia Zoo and did a bit of a road trip. Hiring a car was easy, driving even easier and although there’s not a lot to do in terms of sightseeing or major iconic landmarks or attractions, it’s a nice part of Australia.
Granted, if you’re going to Australia for the first time, I’d probably, no definitely, recommend going to Melbourne over Brisbane, but if you want to try somewhere a bit more laid back, then Brisbane is definitely worth a visit.
