Most people only go to Orlando for the amusement parks (over 10 of them) and the golf, of which there are dozens and dozens. It’s got one of the best climates year round and many touring Pro’s use this as their base for exactly these reasons (the golf reasons).
It’s been almost 20 years since I’ve been there but I can still remember Disney World and Epcot and all the other theme parks and how rather unspectacular they were. Of course, if you or your kids are into Disney then they’re going to love it but the crowds and rides and the whole Disney experience gets rather tedious, rather quickly. I’ve got a golf pro mate living in Orlando with his family so he’s provided most if not all the information here.
I told him not to write any info about the amusement parks because, well, there’s thousands of sites out there for that and they’ve been written about to death. If you’re not from the USA then their are better cities to visit including New York, Washington DC and San Francisco but like I said, if you’re really into the whole Disney and theme park experience then it’s not going to get much better than Orlando.
Or course there’s other things to do in Orlando apart from golf and the theme parks but nothing you’d go to Orlando specifically just to see, with perhaps the exception of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, which you can find out more about in our things to do in Orlando guide. One thing to note, there’s no direct flights into Orlando from anywhere in Asia and only a handful of countries in Europe fly direct so you’re most likely going to need to fly into somewhere else then take a connecting flight.
