Boston, USA

Some lovely areas but Boston is lacking any stand out features, attractions or qualities to make it a must-visit.

I wanted to like Boston but to be honest I found it underwhelming and a bit ordinary. I didn’t really choose to go here and Grobbler and I only tagged along because of his Mum’s School Alumni.  It was nice and we had a good time, but as far being a city I’d recommend or go back to, it’s neither of those.

Boston - Harbour

We had one nice day of weather, warm and partly cloudy.  Second to last day it was sunny but about 15 degrees but felt like about 8 degrees with the wind.  I heard several locals saying they were freezing but heard wasn’t out of the ordinary. The day we left it was 12 degrees and raining, absolutely miserable and this was the beginning of June. So without a doubt, the weather didn’t help, or rather the weather wouldn’t be one of Boston’s positive talking points.

Boston - City

Even not considering the weather, I found Boston ordinary to say the least.  There’s a few good things to do and see but it’s far from the most picturesque or beautiful city in the world and there’s not that many iconic landmarks, building or interesting architecture anywhere in the city. There’s some nice parks, but not anything special and for kids, it’s not really a city you can walk around and get from landmark to landmark to.  There’s a lot of homeless and beggars in Boston and I found them annoying. There was one guy waiting outside a 7-Eleven and harassing me to get some change. I can do without that in the Western World and in Boston this was just one of many instances of getting hassled for change.

Boston - MA

The people are a bit of a mixture, some nice and some not so nice.  First taste was getting in a taxi and the driver being severely pissed off because he had to take us a short distance down the road.  I can understand why he was pissed off, it was about 1km, but with a backpack, a camera bag, and a big suitcase and Grobbler, I don’t think I’d have walked it even if I had known it was so close. He could have just told us nicely, it’s just down the road instead of make his displeasure known for the entire journey, which it turned out was about 15 minutes because of the traffic.

Boston - Quincy market

I walked around quite a bit of the harbour and inner city of Boston and it was ok, but nothing to recommend.  If you have to go, or are close by, it’s alright, it’s not like you’ll have a bad time, it’s just there’s not much to get too excited about.

Boston Harbor Hotel – No Waka’s Staying Here Bro

Stayed 4 nights at the Boston Harbor Hotel. It’s situated about 10 minutes from Boston South Station on the harbour and close to a lot of Boston’s top things to do. Being in this location has one negative thing and that is the road it’s on has some rather bad traffic at times. We probably spent 15 minutes getting to …

New York to Boston Train

Don’t expect any Japanese Bullet Train service or style on the New York to Boston Train. It’s an Amtrak “High Speed” Train called the Acela Express. Don’t expect it to take off and rocket along. It’s rather slow and takes over 4 hours from New York to Boston. The New York to Boston Train takes off from Penn Station. You get …
