Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic

Cesky Krumlov is an awesome little town in the south of the Czech Republic

We stopped at Cesky Krumlov on the way from Prague to Hallstat and actually wish we had spent a night or two here. It’s a quaint little town with loads of character and a laid back atmosphere.  Granted, there were quite a few bus loads of tourists there, but it wasn’t too bad.  The drive from Prague to Hallstat via Linz is a bit of a long one, maybe around 5 hrs, so it’s a good way to break up the trip and well worth spending at least a few hours there.

There were folks kayaking and rafting through the town and when you drive out of Cesky Krumlov for quite a few miles you can see loads of locals (like literally hundreds) having a ball rafting (slowly) down the Vltava river.  Having a ball probably isn’t the right term as they seem to be more chilling out, some were even having a bit of a pash.  Whatever they were doing it seemed like a good idea so do a Google and have a look how you can do that.

Anyway, there’s some nice little restaurants and shops in the town, it’s tranquil, quaint, cute, picturesque and all those terms in their true meaning.  Get a sandwich or some takeaway and have a picnic by the river. We didn’t but wished we had.

If you can, I’d stay 1 night, it’s a tiny town so there’s no need to spend more than a full day here.  This is one of the few places I’ve visited this year that I wished we could have spent more time in.  It’s a bit out of the way of any major city so a bit hard to go back to, but it’s definitely worth visiting if you’re anywhere near it.
