Took an early morning to Siem Reap on Cathay Dragon which leaves around 8a.m and gets in at 9:30, about 2 1/2 hrs flight time, not that many flights from Hong Kong to Siem Reap so you can’t be too picky with times and days. Went here with a mate to play some golf but being the delicate flower he is, he grazed his knee or something and bailed on the golf. Booked a round of golf at Angkor Golf Resort and they pick you up from the airport. Driver was there on time at Siem Reap International Airport, which is exactly what you expect being in Siem Reap – small and not much to do, but no complaints getting through immigration, although on the way out the immigration offices asked for a tip. I told I had no money and went on my way.
Angkor Golf Resort is one of the better golf courses I’ve played in Asia and it’s probably one of the better golf experiences I’ve had in Asia, despite the fact I played by myself. When you turn up you’re greeted like you are at a private golf club, check in is a breeze and when you get to the locker, you have your name on it. Perhaps the best thing about Angkor Golf Resort is the fact I quite literally had the course to myself. Didn’t see a single sole the entire round and whipped around in a bout 2 hours. This is how golf should be played! The course is a perfect resort course, some nice holes with wide fairways, not too easy, not too difficult. If I wanted a few days of golf, I’d gladly go back here and play 2-4 rounds in a couple of days.
Not much else to do in Siem Reap apart from golf and see the Angkor temples, of which there are many. Once you’ve seen one, they get a bit repetitive.
