Okinawa, Japan

Wasn't hugely impressed by Okinawa but would like to go back sometime and give it another chance

A lot of people I know (which is not really a lot) absolutely love Okinawa but I found it a bit ho-hum.  For the first few days we didn’t have the greatest weather so perhaps that was part of it, but apart from the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, which you can read more about in Toucan’s Tips for Kids, there’s not a lot of other must-see things to do or places to visit there.  For sure, you need to rent a car to be able to drive around the Island and do some exploring, which we kind of did (rented the car, but didn’t do a lot of exploring).  If you don’t have a car, not sure how you’d get around, I mean of course there’s taxi’s but it’d make it a lot more difficult getting around as there’s not really a central area where everything is located.

Okinawa prefecture is actually 150 islands with Okinawa Island being the largest and the one everybody goes to.  There’s supposedly some great coral reefs on Okinawa but we didn’t really stay long enough to even attempt to find where they were.  I think next time I visit Okinawa I’d be trying some snorkelling and diving and doing a bit of a road trip up and down the coast. To be fair we didn’t really didn’t have enough time to properly explore Okinawa so our things to do and places to visit list is a bit short. Okinawa is a place where you go for a quiet, relaxing holiday with great (Japanese) food.  You won’t find epic adventures and action sports here so take that into consideration before going.

I’ll be updating this soon as I plan to go back in 2017.

Little bit small for a family (2 adults and 1 Child) than what we usually stay in but perfectly adequate and has a nice little balcony outside. Unfortunately didn’t get to play golf but looks nice. Hotel …
