Stay at the Shangri-la Mactan Resort and Spa Cebu and there's really no need to go anywhere else.

Just stayed 5 nights at the Shangri-la Mactan Resort and Spa Cebu and didn’t leave the hotel the entire time so these pages will be devoted entirely to the resort. This is my second visit to Cebu and this hotel, the first visit was about 8 years ago with family and the resort is still a bit old and tired, but an excellent place to younger kids with two large swimming pools, a nice beach and everything is set up for families.

Cebu is just over a 2 hr flight from Hong Kong, good flight time on Cathay Pacific around 930a.m which gets you to the hotel just after lunch.  The Cebu Airport is looking a bit worse for wear but undergoing some major renovations and enlargements. We were almost last off the plane but the line going through immigration wasn’t that big, although we used the Apec line and didn’t have to wait at all.

The rooms at the Shangri-la Mactan Resort and Spa Cebu are getting old, we booked one in the Ocean Wing, which allows you to swim in the Ocean Wing pool.  We booked a standard (cheapest) Ocean Wing Premier Room, about 34sqm, overlooking the lobby – a bit shite but the room was a bit a dark so wouldn’t have wanted to stay in it most of the time anyway.  Apart from being a bit old and not that great smelling, the room was fine, nothing luxurious but perfectly okay for a 5 night stay.

Plenty of things to do at the hotel and if your kids love swimming and the water, this resort is perfect, although there’s a few things that you might need to consider, which you can read more about in the info pages. Overall a good stay, not a great one, but worth going if you’re looking for somewhere close and want to take the kids.

Cebu to Bohol Ferry

The Cebu to Bohol Ferry is one way to get to Bohol from Cebu and takes about 2 hours.  If you take the afternoon flight from Hong Kong you’ll have to stay the night at a hotel in Cebu (I stayed at the Waterfront Airport Hotel), which is not ideal.  The last ferry is around 6p.m and you can take …

We cover the Shangrila Cebu in detail in our Cebu Travel Guide but here’s a broad overview of the resort in one page for those of you who find clicking tiring (you poor thing, having to click more than once).  The Shangrila Cebu, officially, the Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa Cebu, is probably one of the best family resorts or hotels we’ve …
