Just stayed 5 nights at the Shangri-la Mactan Resort and Spa Cebu and didn’t leave the hotel the entire time so these pages will be devoted entirely to the resort. This is my second visit to Cebu and this hotel, the first visit was about 8 years ago with family and the resort is still a bit old and tired, but an excellent place to younger kids with two large swimming pools, a nice beach and everything is set up for families.
Cebu is just over a 2 hr flight from Hong Kong, good flight time on Cathay Pacific around 930a.m which gets you to the hotel just after lunch. The Cebu Airport is looking a bit worse for wear but undergoing some major renovations and enlargements. We were almost last off the plane but the line going through immigration wasn’t that big, although we used the Apec line and didn’t have to wait at all.
The rooms at the Shangri-la Mactan Resort and Spa Cebu are getting old, we booked one in the Ocean Wing, which allows you to swim in the Ocean Wing pool. We booked a standard (cheapest) Ocean Wing Premier Room, about 34sqm, overlooking the lobby – a bit shite but the room was a bit a dark so wouldn’t have wanted to stay in it most of the time anyway. Apart from being a bit old and not that great smelling, the room was fine, nothing luxurious but perfectly okay for a 5 night stay.
Plenty of things to do at the hotel and if your kids love swimming and the water, this resort is perfect, although there’s a few things that you might need to consider, which you can read more about in the info pages. Overall a good stay, not a great one, but worth going if you’re looking for somewhere close and want to take the kids.
