It’s a little bit of a mission to get to Bintan Island from Hong Kong, only about 4 hrs from Hong Kong, but if you leave at 830, by the time you get the Bintan ferry you’re not going to be at the resort until late afternoon at the earliest and if you go weekday, the ferries are less frequent so if the flight is late, you might spend the whole day traveling. Bintan Island is not the best beach holiday in the world but for us at least, it’s in the top 3 or 4 and definitely worth a visit whether it’s for golf, family or couples.
We stayed at the Banyan Tree Bintan which was fantastic, if you’re looking for the best resort on Bintan Island, I reckon this is it. You can read the full review here. There’s plenty of other hotels on Bintan Island, and the Angsana Bintan, which is right next door to Banyan Tree, looks fine and for way less money. There’s also a Club Med but they’ve always been a bit Hi-De-Ho ish to me and usually include all the meals so you’ll see a lot of fat buggers feasting at all the times of the day.
To be honest there’s not much to do on Bintan Island but the beach the Banyan Tree is located on was excellent and when you’ve got a kid who has just recently discovered the fun of jumping into water and diving under water, really all you need is a swimming pool and the Banyan Tree had two excellent swimming pools, both with shade throughout different times of the day, which you need because you’ll get burnt alive if you stay out in the Indonesian sun all day.
The first trip to Bintan Island was with a friend and we had two very enjoyable and very relaxing rounds of golf at one of the better golf courses I’ve played anywhere in the world (and I’ve played over 300 golf courses). We stayed at Ria Bintan, had a coackroach in our room but other than that it was fine for a night. Read on to find out more about Bintan Island.
