Bali, Indonesia

August, 2014 - A lot of peoples favourite getaway, Bali doesn't have much over Thailand, it's further (from Hong Kong), the service isn't as good, the food isn't great, and it's way more expensive.

Honestly, I don’t know what all the fuss is about with Bali. For one it’s full of Aussies getting pissed at all hours of the day, which immediately gets it demerit points!  No even considering that, I can’t think of a single reason why you would want to go to Bali over somewhere like say Koh Samui or Bintan Island.  The beaches in Bali, at least where we stayed (in Nusa Dua) wasn’t that shit hot and we took a trip over to Seminyak and that wasn’t anything you’d get too excited about either.  The airport immigration at Bali airport is diabolical, the bugs and mosquitoes were on full attack mode and we haven’t been back to Bali since our first visit.

A Little Bit of What I thought About Bali

Sure, if you don’t travel much, are young and your idea of a good holiday is getting off your face the whole time, then I can see Bali would be quite ok, but for family holidays, it’s much ado about nothing and from Hong Kong, the longish flight makes it even less attractive.  We went to Bali in August 2014 when Grobbler was less than 2 yrs old so perhaps we need to give it another chance now he’s older.  But for me personally, there’s at least 10 other places I’d rather go to that are closer, cheaper and provide a better all around holiday.

To be fair, the hotel was nice (we got to stay in a massive suite) and we had an ok time there and would probably have a better time now Grobbler’s a bit older. So maybe one day we’ll go back, but at the moment it’s still near the bottom of places I’d like to go back to.

Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class

Got a Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class tickets using Asian Miles, which is a miracle as Cathay makes it increasingly difficult to redeem tickets.  I can understand why. Hong Kong has one of the most transient affuent populations in the world and the amount of people racking up hundreds of thousands and even millions of miles is …

Hilton Bali Resort

We stayed at the Hilton Bali Resort in August 2014 when it was called Grand Nikko Bali Hotel and under a different management/ownership.  We had booked an Ocean View Suite and when we got there, the Villa was fine, big enough, but the view was basically of a massive crane that was used to construct a neighbouring hotel (according to …
