Whatever you think of him, the Angry Photographer AKA Ken Wheeler is highly entertaining and he’s on a different wavelength then most of us, which is not a bad thing. He posts “sample” shots on flickr but as far as a portfolio goes, that seems to be like the Holy Grail so nobody can actually comment much about his photography. He does seem to know his shit, he’s got “more lenses than God”, but then so does anybody that owns one lens because as we all, know there’s no such thing as God. Owning hundreds of something doesn’t necessarily make you an expert but to me, and over 100,000 others, it appears that he knows what he’s talking about most of the time.
He’s posted almost 4000 videos, most of which are repetitive and controversial and again that doesn’t make you an expert, but if you want advice on a lens, the Angry Photography appears to be the guy to ask. He repeats himself over and over “I’ve got more lenses than God”, “There’s no such thing as Weather Sealing”, “ I don’t pimp anything” etc etc… Over and over and over again he repeats the same stuff – just watch any of his videos and notice how many times he says the same thing, over and over. He’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but I find him, for the most part, entertaining and well informed when he’s not ranting about something completely irrelevant to the actual subject of the video.
If you’re a gear head, check out the Angry Photographer, at the very least he’s worth a laugh. He does contradict himself sometimes, at one stage he says he’ll never invest in the Fuji lens system, the next minute he owns the whole lot with the exception of 1 or 2. It’s fine to change your mind but don’t try and make a video dedicated to why you haven’t actually contradicted yourself. I’m not subscribed mainly because he posts so many videos and a lot of them have no informational value but he does have some good content in between the crap stuff, and some of the crap stuff is exactly that, utter drivel.
He calls out anybody and everybody on Youtube, referring to dpreview.com as Diaper and Pear Review (I like that one), referring to people as “button sniffers” (which I also like) and has had a big tiff with Sony Artisan Jason Lanier. They recently attempted to bury the hatchet, so to speak, mainly due to Jason reaching out, and all of a sudden they’re BFF’s. Well perhaps not BFF’s but this soap opera featuring two of the most controversial and loved and loathed Photography YouTubers, demonstrates one important point – everybody, including myself, is a tough guy behind the keyboard saying things about other people that most of us would never dare say to their faces. As soon as you get people in a normal human interaction, most of us resort to being polite and avoiding confrontation. If you’re one of those Web Tough Guys, the type of person who puts people down, leaves hateful comments and is basically Rocky behind a keyboard, take note. Next time you’re thinking about leaving a nasty comment, think to yourself, would I say this to the persons face?
I’ve gone a bit of topic here! If you enjoy gear, in particular lenses, definitely check out the Angry Photographer. He’s not for everyone that’s for sure, but you’ll get a laugh from watching his videos and might get some good info especially if you’re a Fujifilm or Nikon shooter. As stated, he tends to change his mind a bit (and I know this for a fact because I’ve been watching his Channel for a long time), but in general, I think he means well and has some excellent information on Fuji lenses, cameras and accessories. In amongst it all you will discover fascinating facts about him ranging from how he got sunburnt kissing his girlfriend on the beach for too long, to the fact he was, or is, the number 1 person for answering tech support questions about the Macbook Air, and that he’s actually not that angry.
