It’s been a few years since we stayed at the Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas but this was one of the most memorable holidays I’ve still ever had. If you look at pretty much any half decent resort in the Maldives, all of them get high reviews so it’s pretty easy to pick a resort to stay in the Maldives and know you’re going to have a pretty chance it’s going to be fantastic. The Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas are about a 30 minute sea plane ride, so not too far but far enough to give you a good experience of riding on a sea plane and flying over many of the islands and atolls is a unique experience not to be missed.
We stayed in one of their over the water villas which are awesome. They’re 300sq meters which is enough room to have a massive party in if you wanted to. The private pool is literally 2 steps from the bed, so you wake up, open the doors and jump in the pool – bloody fantastic! Basically everything about the villa is absolutely awesome, from the bed, to the shower, the outdoor waterfall shower (which is better than a rain shower), the bathroom, which has a glass bottom so while you’re taking a dump or having a wee you look down at the sea and can see fish, I don’t think Villas come any better than this. The balcony is massive and has a wicked swinging bed size chair, it’s just brilliant.
There’s 6 restaurants and a bar at Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas, the breakfast is fantastic, the other restaurants are nice, the food’s good but it’s not brilliant, as good as you can expect being in the middle of the Indian Ocean. There’s an underwater restaurant, which, like many of them, charge twice as much, but still worth eating at if you’ve never done something like that. There’s a kids club (although we didn’t have kids at the time so can’t comment on that), and all the usual water activities as well as bike riding, spa’s, fitness center and all that type of stuff.
The snorkelling was good, the water wasn’t as clear as I imagined, but that’s just expectations. We also took a snorkelling tour about 30 minutes away but that wasn’t any better than the snorkelling around the resort. I saw a couple of sea turtles snorkelling around the resort so no need to take the snorkelling tour, unless they’ve changed it. Be aware though, that it’s been a few years since we stayed here and apparently a lot of the corals have died at many of the resorts so do some homework to make sure the snorkelling is good before you go to any of the resorts, if snorkelling is important to you.
You get your own butler who runs around after you attending to your every need. If I’d asked him to pick my nose, he probably would have, but seriously, our butler was great and we gave him a big tip afterwards. Actually we didn’t get him to do much but he went out of his way to make sure everything was spot on during the entire duration of our stay. All of the staff at Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas were fantastic and can’t say enough good things about them.
The Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas were basically perfect and I can’t think of a single negative thing to say about the resort, the staff or basically the entire holiday. This is how holidays should be and if you’re trying to deciding where to stay in the Maldives, the Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas should be at the top of your list.
