Air Asia Hong Kong To Kota Kinabalu Flight AK236 leaves at 0955 from Terminal 2 at Hong Kong International Airport. This is the second time I’ve flown Air Asia in the last few months and it’s totally fine even if you don’t consider it a budget Airline. As with the Air Asia flight from Hong Kong to Chiang Mai, we got to the check in counter and there weren’t many people waiting, maybe 5 people in about 5 lines so not too bad.
We booked a Privilege Up front seat which has it’s own counter and there was nobody there. Think this costs only a few hundred more, ordinarily I wouldn’t have bothered but we had a connecting flight from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu shortly after we landed and wanted to make sure we were off the plane rather quickly. Anyway, only waited a few minutes, probably helped we checked in online prior. Other lines went fast though and the Air Asia ground staff seem to be efficient.
You’re allowed a total of 8kg carry on luggage per person on Air Asia Hong Kong To Kota Kinabalu and we had two carry-ons that were 11 and 10kg, as well as a backpack, one of which of which was probably getting close to 7kg, but when I put the suitcases on, he just said this one’s a bit heavy, and asked if I had a laptop in there, took it out, and he said ok. This is pleasantly unusual, especially for a budget airlines, and good to see them using some common sense.
Air Asia Hong Kong To Kota Kinabalu was full, even all the upfront seats, I guess being school holidays lot of people travelling. I had a slurper next to me, you know, the kind of person that makes loud noises sucking up their noodles, except this guy was special. There was no noodles or soup, but he’d taken the slurping to a whole new level, and managed to make slurping noises eating rice. Well done young chap, well done. Also some HK Chinese behind who must have been deaf and insisting on yelling their conversation the entire flight. People, they’re sitting right next to you, they can hear you no problem speaking softly .
Of course, this isn’t Air Asia’s fault, but more to do with the one issue that will always be present with budget airlines, and that is the type of people you get on board. Yes, sometimes there’s no other options to fly, but regardless, you’re going to get some “characters” on the plane. There were some pretty okay food options in the magazine but apparently most of those aren’t available. The only two food options (other than snacks) were a hamburger and some type of puff thing. However, they did give us a free meal, not sure what you call it, some chicken, peanuts, rice, and egg and some whitebait looking little fish things. Was pretty much what you expect. Bit spicy so bring snacks if you have kids.
Air Asia Hong Kong To Kota Kinabalu took off about 30 minutes late arrived about 10 minutes late. This flight (Air Asia Hong Kong To Kota Kinabalu AK236) has a good on-time record and getting out of Hong Kong Airport within 30 minutes of your departure time is considered pretty good, especially at that time in the morning. Staff were good, friendly and efficient. Overall happy to fly this flight again and no complaints at all.
