Wing Shing Photo Supplies is a typical photo shop in Hong Kong that provides absolutely miserable service, it’s overpriced and I would stay away from Wing Shing Photo Supplies if you’re looking to buy camera gear in Hong Kong. My one and only visit to Wing Shing Photo Supplies I was after an M Mount to X Mount adapter and when I finally managed to ask someone if they had one, was basically told off for asking and given a stern “No”, before the guy buried his head in his phone again.
Before storming out and plotting my review of Wing Shing Photo Supplies, I had a chance to look at some prices and they’re way more expensive than anything in Sim City just down the road and don’t really have any advantage at all over any other camera shop in Hong Kong. If you want to be greeted with absolute disdain and have some of the most unfriendly customer service in Hong Kong (and that is saying something), if you want to pay higher prices than you should, then sure, by all means head down to Wing Shing Photo Supplies in Mongkok and have yourself a ball.
I just don’t understand how shops like this manage to stay in business. It’s not as if I did anything wrong, just walked in, said a polite and friendly “Hi” before asking for a product, and was basically made to feel like “how dare you waste my time, we don’t have any, now F off so I can get back to playing with my phone”. Wing Shing Photo Supplies is one of my most disliked photo shops in Hong kong and I’d rather eat dog shit than buy anything from them.
I think Wing Shing Photo Supplies caters mostly to mainland tourists and tourists in general because it’s on one of the main roads of Mongkok and see’s a lot of walk by traffic which probably manages to keep them in business. What are the alternatives to Wing Shing Photo Supplies? If you’re in that area check out Sim City a few minutes away. Some of the service isn’t a whole lot better but at least the prices, in general, are lower.
